If in terms of albums 2017 is anything like 2016 then this will be a great year for music fans everywhere.
Already is news of upcoming albums hitting media outlets. The excitement for the albums to already be confirmed and even those that are just rumors at this point is electrifying. These are the six albums we’re most excited for in 2017.
John Father Misty – Pure Comedy
Since changing to the moniker, John Father Misty, Joshua Tillman has taken the musical world by storm. First gaining popularity for his creative renditions of Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs” and Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space”, he went on to release his second album under John Father Misty “I love you Honeybear” which debuted in 2015. The album was John father Misty’s most ambitious to date and the public took notice. To follow the success of “I Love You Honeybear” John Father Misty announce the release of “Pure Comedy” dropping in early April. To accompany the announcement Misty released a 25 minute documentary on the making of the album that is done in a style only the artist himself could create giving his fans an indication of what to expect from his newest work.
Kanye West – Turbo Grafx 16
2016 was quite a roller coaster year for the multifaceted artist Kanye West. The year begin with the release of his 7th studio album the “Life of Pablo” a massive hit record that was as publicize as it was acclaimed as a result of its controversial lyrics and West’s avant-garde style of promoting the album. Later that year, West’s health became a concern and he was unfortunately hospitalized. Bouncing back, West is reportedly working on a new album titled “Turbo Grafx 16”. The news of this album was further validated when during an interview with XXL Magazine, artist and president of Kanye West’s music label G.O.O.D. Music Pusha T stated that Kanye West is indeed working on a new album for 2017.
Drake – More Views
2016 was undoubtedly the year of Drake. Reeling from the success of his collaboration album with Future “What a Time to Be Alive” he released his solo effort “Views”. The album his 4th solo album sold a staggering million copies in its opening week in the process earning the artist another chart-topping album. One would think with the monumental year Drake had in 2016 that 2017 would be a pretty quiet year for the artist, but think again Drake has already announced that another album is slated for a 2017 release. The album titled “More Views” is expected to release in the spring.
LCD Soundsystem – TBA
LCD Soundsystem, in its inception in 2001, was a band that few people saw as a future success. With their truly unique sound, the band steadily garnered the attention of musical lovers everywhere. By the end of the decade, LCD Soundsystem garnered a massive fan base which made the announcement that the band was breaking up ever more surprising. In the spring of 2011, in front of a sold-out audience at Madison Square Garden LCD Soundsystem said farewell to the world retiring at the height of the popularity. Bringing a jolt of excitement to their fans, the band has reunited performing at various festivals making the likelihood of a return album promising.
In 2014, Lorde broke onto the scene with the release of “Pure Heroine”. The album which was propelled to massive success by the chart-topping single “Royal” reached triple platinum status. Building on the success of her freshman album, Lorde went on to curated The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 soundtrack. Taking a three-year hiatus after the two albums the artist is on the verge of a return. Although news of her sophomore album has been kept confidential she did state on Instagram that “The record is written, we’re in the production stage now” when commenting on a fan’s post inquiring about the album. Update: Lorde has revealed the upcoming album to be MeloDrama.
